Quilt Sampler 2013 Block 1

Hello chickadee's ready for block 1?  I am thinking I am going to make mine red and pink?

To start cut 5 pink 3 7/8 inch blocks

Cut 2 white 4 1/4 inch blocks

Cut 2 red 4 1/4 inch blocks

Press the white and red blocks together.

Using your ruler to help guide your cut, cut the red and white 4 1/4 inch squares in half  from tip to tip.

Sew the red and white  pieces together using 1/4 seam allowance.
You will make 4 sets.

Set your seams by pressing them on the red fabric, when you open it to press it open your seam allowance will go towards the red fabric on the back and will not show through on the white.

You are going to sew 3 sets

Sewing a pink 3 7/8 inch to a red and white block, then sew a pink 3 7/8 inch block to the end of the red and white block. (Make 2 following the picture for placement)

Sew a red and white block to a 3 7/8 inch pink block and sew a red and white block to the end of the pink 3 7/8 inch block  (Make 1)

This is how your 3 sets will look.  If you press your seams towards the pink it will make it easier to pin and match up the seams.

Square up to 10 1/2 inches.

Here ya go block 1 all finished.

Hope you all are having a great week and enjoyed making the block with me.

Hugs
donna

  8. Just made my block. I don't understand why you cut four each of the white and red if you're only going to use half of them. When you cut them from tip to tip, you end up with eight units. Was that a typo? Anyway, it turned out pretty, but I supposed I'll just make another. ;-)

  14. Hi Sweet Donna!! This looks so pretty! You are great at tutorials. I have a question, please don't laugh, but are you making pattern pieces out of paper? It looks like you are sewing over the paper, or is that the white material?
Have a super sewing weekend, friend!
    Blessings,
    Susie
