Quilt Block Sampler 2013 Block 6

Happy Hump Day!  Hope you are doing well.

For Block 6
Cut 2 red 6 1/2 inch squares
          2 white 6 1/2 inch squares
Layer the red on top of the white

Using your ruler cut them in half diagonally.

Sew with a 1/4 inch seam.

Do not forget to set all your seams.

Press to the red.

This is how your squares will look.

OK here is the tricky part. When you cut your squares again in half.  You will need to cut diagonally from white to red. ( you will have 4 of these)
Next cut diagonally from red to white. ( you will have 4 ) This will make a HUGE difference in placement.  You will need to sew to the opposite like below.

This is the placement for sewing them together.

Here is what your square will look like.  You will need to square them up to 5 1/2 inches.  I like to make them a little bigger, it is easier to square up and make your block look better.

You will have 4 of these.

This is the placement for sewing them together.

I wanted to show you how I ironed it.  Iron the center seam open so it will lay flat.  If you Iron the center seams on both rows in the opposite directions it will help you to match your seams up when you sew both rows together.

Viola!  You will have a 10 1/2 inch square.

I know I do plan on doing sashing.  Just not sure where all the time is going.  My goal is to have the sashing measurements for the next post.  Hope you enjoyed making this block with me, it was great fun.

I have been quilting some quilts of Valor and it dawned on me today that I had not been taking pictures.  DUH!  In the next few days I will have to share some of the latest pictures with you.

Hugs
