Blessings of Spring

Look what I got in the mail.  When I saw this on Shabby Fabrics website   http://www.shabbyfabrics.com/
I knew I just had to have it.  But I am thinking of doing this in 1930's reproduction fabrics.  I am not sure when.  Today is such a blah day and my email is acting up.  The weather is so gloomy here but no rain.

Yesterday I had lunch with Sharon.  We went all over town thrifting.  I found these wonderful feed sacks.  I just love when I stubble upon them.

We went to our local quilt shop and I bought a few 1930's reproduction prints to go in my stash.

Thought I would show you my Grape Ice Day Lillie's.  It seems like they are the last to start blooming.  I have them mixed in with yellow Day Lillie's.

Hope everyone got to see the beautiful Royal Wedding yesterday.  Such a fairy tale.  I just love it.

Hugs,

Finished

Wow, I am finally finished with the quilting on Autumn's wedding quilt.  I got it all trimmed up so now all I have to do is the binding.  I will show you the finished quilt after I put the binding on it.
This is my sister's Dresden plate quilt I have finally finished the binding and it is ready for the washing machine.  I used all 1930's reproduction fabrics.

The border is pink sorry the pictures do not look that good.  I found this white with pink poka dot for the back it was just screaming for me to put it on the back.  I am so in love with poka dots and gingham.

This is the hexagon quilt I showed you in the past finially finished it too.  Binding is  finished and it is in the dryer as we speak.  This quilt also has 1930's reproduction fabrics in it.

Oh my gosh and the back I picked is Fun with Feed Sacks by Glenna Hailey.  This is one of my favorite lines.  I am still trying to collet this.  I quilted this with cherries and leaves you can not see the quilting in the pictures. Sorry.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

                                                                    Happy Easter

Friday, April 22, 2011

This morning after I got dressed I visited some of my blog friends.  Well they inspired me to want to go treasure hunting.  So David took me but first we went and had an old fashioned hamburger.  The place looks like a dive but the owner keeps it clean.  It has been around since my mom was a teenager I think.
The treasure for today is this vintage sewing basket.  I have seen them around but not in this good of condition.  It was a little pricey but I got them to come down $20.  So I made it mine.

Just look at all the goodies that came with it.  As you can see the lower left is a little pushed in but other than that the coloring looks perfect.

This gadget came with it and I have never seen this before.  So I am hoping some of you may know it is and what it is used for?

As you can see I have not been doing to much sewing because I just can not seem to stay home.  So I am now off to pay a visit to my sewing room.  Would not want it to be lonely.

I just do not know where the day goes.  Well I did managed to get a few more rows quilted on Autumn's wedding quilt.  It is slow but I will get there.  I do not have a long arm quilting machine it is a regular sewing machine with a little bigger throat on a New Joy frame.  So the designs I use are about 4 1/2 inches wide.   And this is a KING size quilt.  My ADD starts to kick in and I go do something else and go back it and so on.  Just thought I would show you how I am quilting it.  Since it is a wedding quilt I thought hearts and loops would be nice.

These are 3 inch strips of feed sacks.  Carla and I are going to trade feedsacks.  I am not sure how many are here but it was fun to do.  I tend to forget how many I have and there are a ton of purple/lavender ones. (Shocker)  But I am still on the hunt for more.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Yesterday was my sweet hubby's birthday.  We went to the Texas Hill Country he  likes to take me treasure hunting.  I think that is because he loves to find old books.  No matter I am just so thankful that he likes to hunt for old/vintage stuff too.  I found another feed sack and oh my I found a great selection on vintage cards.  Mostly Christmas they will give my a great start to making my very own Christmas cards this year.

So I have not been home to do much sewing.  But the mailman has been really nice to me.  Jan-Maree agreed to swap with me Australian quilting/craft magazines for fabric.  You should really go visit her. http://cherryredquilter.blogspot.com/  Her quilt's are just beautiful and sometimesI think she does not sleep .

Jan-Maree also put these beautiful quilt blocks in my package as a wonderful surprise.  She knows how much I love purple.  This picture does not do them justice.  I just love love them.  Thank you so much Jan-Maree.  Your surprise will be on it way soon.

Look what I ordered from Michelle Ridgway Designs.  Her designs are just precious.  You must visit her as well.  http://michelleridgwaydesigns1.blogspot.com/ Michelle designs her own patterns oh my are they cute.   She is going to be a part of the Cookies and Cream Christmas Club.  Michelle and 4 other designers have designed patterns for this.  It will last 5 months and each month you will get a pattern in the mail but you will not know which one as it is a surprise.  You must join to be a part of this. http://www.cookiesandcreamcraft.com.au/ When you visit Cookies and Cream to join on the upper left there is a search button if you type in Christmas club it will come up.

We are making tonight movie night.  Not sure what the movie is going to be yet but it will be nice just to sit next to the birthday boy on the couch.

Another week has gone by and my purple featherweight is still not finished.  As you can tell I just can not wait to get it back and start sewing with it.
Yesterday was a busy but fun day.  I do not get to do much with Wanda (my sister) since we live about an hour apart and she is always busy.  Yesterday we shopped until we dropped buying things for Autumn's wedding.  Autumn is still in the Army and stationed in New York.  She will be home about 3 or 4 days before her wedding so she does not have time to plan everything.  I think we pretty much got everything done that can be done for now.
I have to show you the block I did for Alex she is my swap buddy this month from Australia.  I put it in the mail this morning to her.

If you are interested in joining the block swap you can visit Alex at http://quiltingblockswapsaustralia2.blogspot.com/ just leave her a message
and she will get back with you.

I have also joined the Santa Sack Swap and Cheryll is in charge of this one. You
can visit her at http://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.com/ just emailed her and let her
know you would like to join.  This only my second swap and I am so loving it. The
swaps have been so much fun to make.  Hope you will join in.

Well I guess I should do a little yard work.  Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I got Autumn's wedding quilt on the quilting machine today.   I decided to do hearts and loops.  I have not taken any more pictures yet.  But I will show you soon.  Got a few rows done and played with some fabrics.  I am doing a 12 inch block swap and a tea towel swap.  So I was trying to plan out what I am going to do.  These swaps are so much fun.

Today I was visiting My Vintage Mending.  Oh my you must stop by her blog and see the gorgeous apron she is giving away.  Here is her link http://myvintagemending.blogspot.com/  Leave Renee a comment for a chance to win.  I know you will enjoy visiting her.

Well tomorrow is another work day for me.  Hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Well I did not get any sewing done yesterday.  But we had the most wonderful day.  We went back to Warrenton again yesterday for a day of treasuring hunting with some friends.  I bought a metal dress form
which I will have to show you later it needs some paint.  I was thinking of painting it white so that when I put something on it for a picture it would pop.  But my heart tells me to paint it lavender.  What do you think?

I also found a couple of aprons which I love.

The scare crows are so cute.  Could not resist.  Thought it would be the perfect fall apron.

Then of course you know I would have to bring a few feed sacks home.  And there always has to be a purple one.

The top one in this picture is a full flour bag.  It is still stitched.

I thought I was going to get my purple feather weight back this week.  But David came home on Friday and said that they may have it ready this week.  You know I have ants in my pants and can not wait to get it back and start sewing on it.  Hope everyone has a great day.

I just have to show you what I got in the mail this week.

I just love this Frilly Farm Bag.  Carla and I each bought one and hopefully soon we are going to have a sewing day together and this is what we will be making.  If any of you are interested in buying this bag pattern here is the link http://www.latebloomerquilts.com/  These fabrics are just wonderful.

The other thing that I am excited about is another swap.  Cheryll at http://stitchingcubbyhole.blogspot.com/
is arranging another swap and this time it is a tea towel.  This is so much fun I just had to share with you.
So if any of you are interested just click on Cheryll's link.

Today I need to sew on the binding on my sister's Dresden plate quilt.  But first I need to pick up and reorganize my sewing room.  Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.
