New Year's Traditions

Our New Year's Tradition is to cook a big pot of gumbo on New Year's Eve and of course I do save David some sausage to grill since he does not eat gumbo.  We will have family and friends over to bring in the New Year.  On New Year's Day of course we will cook a ham, blackeyed peas and cabbage.  We pretty much stay home and the neighbor's will have fire works.  Oh it is so much fun.
I would love to hear about your New Year's Traditions.

We wish everyone a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Hope everyone had a Blessed Christmas with family and friends.  Here at our house it was wonderful.  Our son is home for Christmas.  We had a cozy little Christmas with just the 3 of us.  Before Christmas we got together with my sisters family and my sister gave this wonderful book of letters and different quilt blocks from the 1920's by Laurie Aaron Hird it even came with a disc in the back but of course I have not had a chance to plug in the disc.

One of my really good friends Carla gave me Amy Barickman's book of Vintage Notions.  This is also a really nice book it has everything from sewing to cooking ( even recipe's).  I am just in love with both books.  I also thought I would show you block 4 of the Circle of Friends quilt I am working on. I am sorry for the glare on the blocks I guess I should turn off my lamp before I take the pictures. (whoops)

In addition to the block each month you also make pinwheel blocks that will later be a border.  I love the way they have you make the pinwheels it makes it really easy and they come out nice.

I finally got to sew today.  Thought I would show the rest of block 3.

Here it is all squared up.

This is the fabric for block 4 isn't it wonderful.  You know it is always fun to have scraps left.  But the way this block of the month is set up you use fabrics from the previous block.  Sew I guess I will have to wait and see what is left.  Hope everyone is finding a little time to sew.  Thank you everyone for you nice comments I appreicate you all.

Thought I would show you my work in progress with my Aunt Grace Circle of Friends quilt.  It is so much fun and I just love the fabrics.  I have not got much done still feel like I am in slow motion and I am still sore but trying to move around more each day.  Anyway I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year.  I know that some of you have yummy snow.  Well in this part of Texas it was 82 today.  I hope cooler wheather gets here before Christmas so we can cuddle up by the fire.

This is block 1.

This is block 2 but you have to make 4 of them.

The last 2 pictures are of block 3.  I will work on them soon and show more pictures.
